Comparing Outpatient and Inpatient Surgery

The decision to undergo a surgical procedure at a hospital versus a surgery center ultimately comes down to one’s personal preference and situation. Both facilities are equipped with skilled staff and the resources necessary to perform effective and safe procedures.

Dr. Palmer’s mastery of the Anterior Hip Replacement technique means that most replacement surgeries at The Hip & Knee Center can be performed as outpatient procedures. However, overall age and health will determine which approach —inpatient or outpatient— is right option for them.

Our Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) in St. Charles is ideally suited for patients who do not require an overnight stay. The facility operates in accordance with the highest industry standards and in compliance with stringent state  oversight and certification. Many of the same standards, constraints and requirements of inpatient hospital operating rooms apply to our ASC.

Depending on what is most important to you, our Ambulatory Surgery Center can provide:

  • A more personal experience
  • Greater interaction with your medical team
  • A significantly less expensive alternative to inpatient surgery
